A manhunt is continuing today for a gunman who shot another man in an apartment in Melbourne yesterday.

Police say a group of people stormed the 44-year-old’s apartment in Oakleigh East, before neighbours heard a fight break out.

A man was found with critical injuries inside the property on Clayton Road before 5.30am yesterday but died at the Alfred Hospital.

“It is believed a number of people fled the scene in unknown vehicles,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

Neighbours said the victim was a tradesman who was known to host parties with friends.

The man’s traumatised partner was the person to call emergency services to the apartment, after the gunman and the group had already fled the scene.

Detectives say the group fled the scene in several vehicles and are calling for witnesses to come forward.

It’s believed the attackers were known to the victim.

The fatal incident occurred just metres from the nearby Corpus Christi aged care facility and Monash University.
