J&K: Terrorists abduct, shoot dead 36-year-old local in Pulwama

Suspected terrorists on Thursday night abducted and shot dead a local in Gulzarpora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The local, Manzoor Ahmad Lone of Dogripora village, was forcibly taken away by the terrorists and shot dead, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said.

A case has been registered in this matter, he said. This was the third attack on civilians in south Kashmir in the past two days.

According to the reports, the deceased’s body was recovered near Higher Secondary School at Gulzarpora. The police said that Manzoor Ahmad Lone suffered serious bullet wounds and died instantly. The area has been cordoned off.

On Thursday (March 14), a National Conference (NC) worker was shot at and injured in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district while an army deserter was shot dead on Wednesday in Pulwama district. Police said NC leader Muhammad Ismail, who was targeted, was from Bijbehara town.

In November 2018, some unknown gunmen killed a former special police officer (SPO) who was among three people abducted from Reban village of Shopian in south Kashmir.

The abducted persons, according to a police officer, included Riyaz Ahmad, Zahid Ahmad and Basharat Ahmad (former SPO). Official sources said that while two were freed, the SPO was killed.
