A Queensland man whose car allegedly struck and killed a nine-year-old boy in Logan on Christmas Day has been charged.

Josiah Sisson was looking at Christmas lights with his family in Springwood on Sunday night when he was hit by a ute allegedly driven by Adrian Murray.

Josiah was taken in a critical condition to the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital but died on Tuesday.

Mr Murray, 24, was today charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and driving a motor vehicle whilst under the influence.

He is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on February 14.

Local residents and family friends banded together in song and prayer and placed flowers, teddy bears and balloons at the crash site after Josiah’s family made the decision to switch off his life support.

Members of Josiah’s parish invited the driver to join them for a prayer session at a family home on Tuesday night.

Pastor Peter Field, who spoke on behalf of the Sisson family on Tuesday, said Josiah was “an incredibly happy-go-lucky, joyful little boy”.

“They [the family] believe in the power of forgiveness and they’re now processing this and they’re moving forward,” Pastor Field said.

“He’s a great little boy who is going to be missed very much.”
